The
Environmental Racism and Human Rights Program
grew out of an earlier
project; the Louisiana Support Netwok, in which IPU linked Lousiana groups
to similar struggles internationally. Currently, iPU is facilitating the
participation of several environmental justice networks in the Earth Summit.
IPU is taking the lead in developing a broad-based international coalition
of environmental justice organizations to influence the larger human rights
agenda.
Civic
Inclusion Programs focuses on projects
that deal with civic inclusion in both development decision-making and
within civil society itself. African descedants groups, women, youth,
indigenous peoples and minority ethnic groups are not only excluded from
traditional spheres of power and influence (such as policy development
and implementation), but many times they are also marginalized within
the NGO family itself. This program implements projects developed during
regional consultations.
The
Young Adult Leadership Development Program seeks to develop a
cadre of informed activist-oriented young adults with international exposure
and perspectives. The prgram includes projects such as Youth Linking Against
Racism initiative for the WCAR, an examination of how activism is concieved
among today's youth, a human rights training program with youth at historically
black colleges and universitys (HCBU's) as a follow-up tot he WCARl.
